I finally got the chance to eat at Mangan for our family’s Christmas Eve dinner. I like their interior design, it’s very homey yet very elegant. We ordered a set meal but I forgot how much it is so I’ll be posting the individual prices of the dishes included in the set meal.

While we were waiting for our food, they served us Shoestring Sweet Potato. I like that it’s very crunchy but it’s also a bit oily.  Nevertheless, we finished it in an instant.

I’m a big fan of Salmon. I love tasting dishes that has Salmon in it. That said, I got excited when I found out that Sinigang sa Miso na Ulo ng Salmon is part of the set meal that we ordered. The soup is sour but it’s not too sour that you can’t stomach it. The soup doesn’t have a strong fishy taste despite of using Salmon head. This dish is so delicious. This is a must try if you like Sinigang sa Miso and Salmon.

I didn’t like Mangan’s Inihaw na Liempo. I’ve tasted better liempo. There’s also nothing special to their fried chicken.

Eating at a Filipino restaurant wouldn’t be complete if you’re not going to order Kare-Kare. Mangan’s version of Kare-Kare uses soft-boiled ox tail. The ox tail is very tender. The sauce has a little bit of sweetness to it. The bagoong goes really well with the Kare-Kare.

I really loved Mangan’s Pinakbet. This dish may not look appetizing, but when you taste it, you’ll surely come back for more. The vegetables are cooked just right. The bitter gourd (amapalaya) and the string beans (sitaw) are firm to the bite. The squash (kalabasa) is cooked really well that the sweetness to it has been brought out. I highly recommend this dish.

The Lumpiang Bangus is good. It still has that lumpia taste but instead of pork, shredded bangus was used. The only drawback to this dish is that they didn’t remove the fish bones thoroughly.

The set meal also includes Puto Bumbong (P95) but we weren’t able to eat it because we were too full.

Here’s a picture of me with my cousins and tito and tita on Christmas Eve.

I highly recommend eating at Mangan if you’re craving for traditional Filipino dishes.
